What is
Virtual Dedicated
Server? |
Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) hosting is an exciting new
technology that bridges the gap between traditional shared hosting
and dedicated hosting by providing a reliable hosting environment
that is cost-effective altogether. A VDS offers all the security and reliability
of a dedicated server, but in a shared environment.
Just like a dedicated server, each VDS environment is sandboxed for security and receives guaranteed portions of
system resources (CPU, disk etc.) and each runs its own copies of
operating system, web server, mail server, ftp,
database and all other applications. A crashed
application (Apache, Sendmail, MySQL etc.) in a VDS has no effect on
other VDS environments that are on the same physical server. |

providers, your website is most probably one of the hundreds of
websites hosted on a single server. These large number of websites share the
same operating system and installed applications. If one
website is compromised or crashes, then all other websites are affected as

hosted on a server are in the same directory and can
be viewed by other website owners. Since all websites share the
same operating system and applications, an error on one website
or application will cause the entire server to crash and affect
all other websites on the same physical server. |
Each VDS environment functions exactly like a dedicated server,
with its own operating system and applications. At HostConcept,
only up to 100 websites are hosted on each VDS, compared to the
hundreds on each server in shared hosting environment. If a VDS
environment on the same physical server crashes, it will not
affect any of the other VDS environments on the server. |
